NEW YORK FASHION WEEK A/W 2014 DAY 5

Some highlights from Day 5 of New York Fashion Week.

Reem Acra's collection was one that payed incredible attention to detail. The layering and style was incredible and really added to the overall of this collection. I also loved the mixture of textures that had been used which created a lovely variety to the pieces. The colors were rich and eye catching. In terms of shape, many of the pieces were fitted and figure hugging silhouettes. Overall, this collection was very impression and worked incredibly well as a whole range.

The stand outs from the Zac Posen collection came about in the of full length bull gowns with thick heavy skirts. There were definitely show stopping and the designs were incredible. One of my favourite dress was had a deep v shaped at the bust which then cinched in tightly at the waist before billowing out again. The rest of the collection remained fairly basic in shape with the silohettes being slightly more boxy and less cinched in at the waist area. The main colors in this collection were blacks which kept it very chic and basic. There were a couple of pieces that were block, brighter colors. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some of these dresses popping up at future awards shows, as they really wouldn't look out of place on a red carpet.

Karen Walker's collection was my favorite of the day and potentially one of my favorites so far this fashion week. The mix of textures worked incredibly well. One of my favorite pieces as was a boxy grey, over sized coat (above, second from right) that was simple yet still had an impact. It looked like the most perfect winter coat and the think it would amazing styled with a thick scarf. I also really loved the layering that was used in this collection whether it was with colors peeping over the dress or more frequently, we saw it with the use of long sleeved items. I am very impressed by this collection and there were plenty of pieces that I now have my eye on.
Noor by Noor provided a collection that contained many an eye catching embellishments. The layering here was also very interesting with the tulle fabric creating an extra layer to the skirts of the dresses. It added contrast when mixed in with the more silky fabric used. The tones of the palette were rich with deep colours that gave a sophisticated feel to this collection. I also loved the mix of pieces throughout where there was a range of pieces from dresses to jackets and also included were a pair of trousers which had a wide leg (above, middle).

Donna Karan's collection was bold and attention grabbing. From the double split skirts to the sheer panels this collection really brought a lot to the table. I loved the camel colors used and the cinched in waists with belt detail for some of the pieces. The cut out details and sheer fabrics added an interesting dimension to the collection whilst the black created a sophisticated edge. Many pieces were slightly riskier with the deep cuts down the front but they worked well with the tailoring that was involved with a lot of them. This collection had such range to it, it's definitely one to check out in full detail!

Summary
Another really interesting day at this years shows. I loved Karen Walker's collection and have fallen in love with many of the pieces. Cut outs and layering were featured in many today so it will be interesting to see what the rest of the week brings and whether these trends will continue to London Fashion week, which beings on Friday.
